Congress attacks the Central Govt over mismanagement, lockdown and coronavirus crisis

On Saturday, Congress described the primary year of the Modi government’s second term as a “year of dissatisfaction, terribly bad administration”. Congress leaders also questioned the Central government’s handling of the Covid-19 crisis, saying that the administration didn’t strategize accurately to combat the pandemic, especially on how to address the issues related to migrant workers and the daily wagers.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi likewise questioned the Center over the failure of lockdown and is there a blueprint for coronavirus lockdown? India is the first nation to prepare for re-opening nationwide lockdown when the Covid-19 is rising ‘exponentially.

We need to ask the government, what’s their future strategy on reopening of the economy and the safety measures they are going to exercise to check the infection now? How they are going to help the migrant workers, State governments, and the MSME sector amid the rise in a number of Covid-19 cases, Rahul added.

On March 26, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the first nationwide lockdown around 496 people were tested positive and now at the end of May the numbers have gone up to 1.4 lakh, and more than 4,000 have died.

Congress leader KC Venugopal stated that the six years of the Modi regime have seen acts of communal and sectarian violence, demonstrations, the migrant crisis, and witnessing fraternity and brotherhood at risk.

Congress also issued a set of six “myths” regarding the Central government and highlighted its failures on various fronts including the handling of the pandemic.
