Chinese Search Engine Baidu To Launch A ChatGPT Type Bot

The Chinese search engine Baidu is planning to launch a ChatGPT-style program in March. The company will embed it into its main search portal.

According to a person familiar with the situation, Baidu Inc. is preparing to launch an artificial intelligence chatbot service comparable to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This could be China’s most notable entry in a race sparked by the tech boom.

The insider, who requested anonymity to discuss private information, stated that China’s biggest search engine company intended to launch a ChatGPT-style programme in March, initially integrating it into its primary search services.

Users of the unnamed tool will be able to receive search results that are conversational in nature, similar to the well-liked OpenAI platform.

Following Bloomberg’s story, the company’s shares increased by as much as 5.8%, marking the biggest intraday gain in almost 4 weeks.

On an ongoing, billion-dollar drive to shift from internet marketing to more advanced technology, Baidu has invested enormous sums of money in AI research.

Their future ChatGPT-like product will be built on its Ernie system, a sizable machine-learning model that has been trained on data for several years, the source claimed. A spokesman for Baidu declined to respond.

Since its release to the public in November, ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence application from OpenAI, has dominated the internet, attracting more than a million users in a matter of days and igniting a discussion about the use of AI in workplaces, families, and schools.

Microsoft Corp. and other businesses are investing billions to attempt to develop useful applications, while others are cashing in on the buzz to raise money. After announcing intentions to use ChatGPT in its content, Buzzfeed Inc.’s stock price more than doubled this month.

A large portion of China’s internet is under the control of Baidu, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Tencent Holdings Ltd., and ByteDance Ltd.

After falling behind its bigger competitors in areas like mobile advertising, video, and social media, the search company has been attempting to resurrect growth in the mobile era.

The search engine giant is now working on autonomous driving technologies in addition to its AI research.

In an internal meeting in December, Baidu CEO Robin Li cited ChatGPT as an instance of a situation in which the internet giant may assume the initiative, based on a transcript seen by Bloomberg News.

“I’m really happy that the technology we think about every day can grab the interest of so many people. That’s difficult, “he said.

He issued a warning against generative AI becoming a “product that everyone needs” and becoming commercialized “may be difficult, though.

Chinese internet users were similarly intrigued by ChatGPT, who like users worldwide uploaded screenshots of unexpected discussions with the AI bot on regional social media.

Despite a domestic internet that is severely regulated and generally disconnected from the rest of the world, businesses like Baidu have prospered as local alternatives to Google, Amazon, and Facebook.

In addition to Baidu, a number of Chinese businesses that are investigating generative AI have drawn the interest of investors including Sequoia and Sinovation Ventures.
