Chinese Citizens Protest & Ask President Xi Jinping To Step Down

The COVID cases are continuously rising rapidly in China. The Chinese people are highly angry with their President’s policies. Despite any solution, protestors are being arrested & beaten.

The country has seen an increase in the rare public protests against China’s strict Covid-19 lockdowns and calls for Xi Jinping to resign as president as coronavirus cases continue to soar, with close to 40,000 new illnesses reported on Sunday. 

Chinese nationals shared and posted a number of videos of public demonstrations on social media and Twitter, including one in Shanghai when a large crowd chanted anti-ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) and anti-President Xi Jinping chants in a rare display of rage.

According to reports, many demonstrators were being detained. There are also footage of demonstrations from different college campuses where students openly protested the lockdowns. 

Students were also seen protesting at universities, among other places, in Beijing and Nanjing. 

The most recent turmoil comes following a demonstration in Urumqi, a rural city in the northwest, where lockdown procedures were reportedly to blame for 10 tower block deaths.

Chinese officials denied that Covid limitations were to blame for the deaths, but late on Friday, Urumqi officials apologized and promised to “restore order” by gradually phasing down Covid curbs, according to the article.

People were heard openly yelling phrases like “Xi Jinping, step down” and “Communist party, step down” during the protest on Saturday night in Shanghai, according to the BBC. 

As a sign of respect for the Urumqi victims, people were spotted holding blank banners while others lit candles and laid flowers. 

Such demands are uncommon in China, where it is illegal to criticize the government or the President directly, according to the BBC.

According to the allegation, protesters who led anti-government slogans were dragged away and occasionally beaten or shoved up against a police cruiser.

Beijing, meanwhile, declared on Sunday that it would stop the practice of locking building gates in fortified residential areas. 

In particular, it has been severely forbidden to barricade building gates and residential complex entrances in high-risk zones, according to the Xinhua news agency.

Snap lockdowns have incited unrest across the nation, and more general Covid restrictions have sparked recent violent protests from Zhengzhou to Guangzhou, according to the BBC.

As massive COVID testing was conducted throughout China to uncover fresh clusters of infection, the National Health Commission said on Sunday that 39,501 coronavirus cases, including 35,858 asymptomatic cases, had been identified in the nation by the end of Saturday.

The number of cases in China had increased for the fourth day in a row, reaching their highest level since a significant uptick in April in major cities like Shanghai.

As protests have grown and the city has become uneasy due to the lockdown of numerous apartment complexes, the number of cases in the capital Beijing has been sharply increasing. 

On Sunday, the number of cases reached over 4,700. The city has 9,694 total confirmed cases as of Sunday.

Meanwhile, the State Council’s Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing criminal prosecution for COVID-19 control violations and asked local governments to correct any inappropriate implementation of the regulations.

State-run China Daily stated on Sunday that the mechanism claimed that certain local governments have been observed to either implement overt measures like ordering massive lockdowns or maintain a careless attitude toward the sickness, and both tendencies are incorrect.
