China COVID-19 Cases Hit Highest Record Since Pandemic

The cities of China became ghost towns again as the corona (COVID-19) cases jumped to record high. Millions of people have been prisoned inside their homes for 2+ months.

Daily Covid-19 cases in China are at their highest level since the pandemic started in 2020, according to official statistics released on Thursday.

The latest increase occurs despite the government’s continued use of lockdowns and other zero-tolerance measures, such as travel bans.

When compared to Western countries’ caseloads during the peak of the epidemic and China’s enormous population of 1.4 billion, the infections are very minor.

In Zhengzhou’s iPhone factory complex, which has been under Covid restrictions for more than a month due to spiraling cases in its worker dorms, the increase in infections coincides with violent protests.

As authorities asked people to stay at home after case counts reached a new high on Tuesday, malls and parks in Beijing were closed, and once-bustling districts of the capital became ghost towns.

China’s leading car association announced on Wednesday that it would cancel the 2nd day of the China Automotive Overseas Development Summit being held there because to COVID concerns.

Shanghai, a city of 25 million people, was shut down for two months earlier this year.

With 428 instances reported on Tuesday, Chengdu was the most recent city to declare mass testing.

The majority of China’s cases are concentrated in the major manufacturing centers of Chongqing and Guangzhou, where infection rates have remained consistently high.

The number of cases in Guangzhou decreased marginally on Tuesday to 7,970, and according to officials, infections are still concentrated in important parts of the Haizhu district.

After violent protests broke out at the site, Zhengzhou, the city that is home to a sizable iPhone production, issued an extensive Covid lockdown for numerous neighborhoods.

Residents in Zhengzhou’s city center are encouraged not to leave their homes “unless necessary” and are not permitted to leave the region without a negative Covid test and authorization from the authorities.

More than 6 million people, or roughly half of the city’s population, will be subject to the limitations, which start at midnight on Friday and extend for five days.

After tumultuous demonstrations broke out at the vast iPhone factory complex in the city, Zhengzhou issued its decree.

The number of daily cases of Covid in China reached its highest level since the pandemic’s start on Wednesday, when the country reported 31,454 domestic cases, 27,517 of which were asymptomatic.

The most recent results are higher than the 29,390 infections that were reported in mid-April when Shanghai’s megacity was on lockdown.

As China prepares for its first winter fighting the highly contagious Omicron variety, the Covid measures are dimming the outlook for the second-largest economy in the world and dashing hopes that China would drastically alter its outlier COVID position any time soon.
