Chennai Schools, Colleges Closed as Heavy Rains Loom; IT Firms Urged for Work from Home

After the reports of heavy rainfall and warnings issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has declared holidays for schools and colleges in Chennai. The declared holiday is for the district of Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur.

According to local news source DtNext, the decision came after a monsoon preparedness meeting chaired by the CM of Chennai on Monday morning.

Chief Minister Stalin has also urged IT companies to allow employees to work from home between October 15 and 18 to ensure safety during this period as weather expected to worsen over the next few days. India Today reported that the government is taking these precautions to prevent disruption in the bad days and they are ensuring the safety of citizens.

NDRF and SDRF teams are in proactive mode to help in the condition of flood-prone areas. Boats have also been placed on standby in vulnerable zones for potential rescue operations in case of floods.

Officers in charge of affected districts have been told to coordinate flood relief operations with local administrations. The government is preparing planning in advance. This proactive approach aims to minimize the impact of the heavy rains and keep the public safe as Chennai and nearby regions brace for the northeast monsoon’s effects.
