Centre Pulled Up For False Claims Over Asia’s Largest Green Energy Project Inauguration

Last updated on February 14th, 2023 at 12:39 pm

As India’s Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated an impressive Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power project via video conference from Madhya Pradesh, the Centre is already being criticized for its tall claims that Modi considers this as Asia’s largest power project.

From the time the lockdown hit India, the Centre has been moving towards establishing more sources of green energy. This is being considered as the first biggest effort in that direction.  With the establishment of the solar power project, Madhya Pradesh would be considered the main centre of solar energy in India. Currently, there are some major projects in progress in Neemuch, Shajapur, Chattarpur and Omkareshwar.

The project is a part of Modi’s initiative under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). He said the economy is an important aspect of self-reliance and progress.

But opposition is already hitting on the Centre over tall claims that the project is Asia’s largest. Rahul Gandhi took to twitter to say that these are false claims as the project in Karnataka is evidently much larger. Gandhi has stated that the Pavagada Park in Karnataka is much larger (2,000 MW) and was opened in 2018. Apparently, it has already been functioning successfully on the renewable energy model.

While it is a well known fact that Congress has continuously found reasons to denigrate the position of the Centre, this is a blatant claim over falsehood being projected by the PM. Additionally the Karnataka Congress Chief D.K. Shivakumar has also asked for clarification over the claims by the PM by the Union Minister of Energy. The picture remains unclear as to who is trying to promote their own state. While PM’s intent remains to push India ahead on the green energy map, there are vested interests which continue to disturb the dynamics between Karnataka and its neighbouring states over water issues for a decade or so.
