Celebrating Art and Culture: La Nuit Blanche Returns to Chennai

The Alliance Française of Madras is hosting the second edition of La Nuit Blanche on October 19. This event will be an all-night celebration of arts and culture. The theme for this event is inspired by the grandeur of the Versailles Palace. People of Chennai and the visitors will experience seven different spaces, each with its own unique atmosphere and activities.

According to the local news source DTNext, the director of Alliance Française of Madras Dr. Patricia Théry Hart highlighted that this event is more than just a celebration. She says, “La Nuit Blanche is a vibrant mix of Franco-Indian culture. It brings our community together to showcase the talent of local artists and celebrate our shared cultural heritage.”

A key performance of the evening will be Alli Thilaga a traditional koothu and drama by National Award-winning artist Thilagavathi Palani. This collaboration with Shreya Nagarajan Singh (SNS) Arts Development Consultancy will take place from 7 to 8 pm at the Alliance Française premises. Thilagavathi is the first female Kattaikkuttu performer to graduate from the Kattaikkuttu Gurukulam.

She shares her thoughts on the production: “In traditional koothu, many characters are portrayed by a large cast, but in Alli Thilaga, I play multiple roles alone, including myself. It’s been a year-long effort, and I’m excited to present this work to audiences.”

The 45-minute Tamil play is a rehearsal for a new koothu based on the story of Allirani. It is a lesser-known tale from the Mahabharata.
