On Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued direction ordering Allahabad High Court to monitor the CBI probe into the Hathras case where a 19 year old Dalit woman was allegedly gangraped and murdered in the Uttar Pradesh city. The court also said that decision regarding plea for transferring the case out of the state will be taken after CBI finishes the probe.
The Supreme Court bench which was headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said that the HC will monitor and look into all aspects of the Hathras case and all witnesses would be provided security.
On October 15 the verdict was reserved on PIL (public interest litigation) by bench comprising of CJI Bobde, Justice A S Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian. Also, many intervention pleas by lawyers and activists were reserved by the bench who had argued that fair trial is not possible in Uttar Pradesh after initial botched up probe.
