Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s popularity has taken a hit ahead of the 2025 elections, according to recent opinion polls.
The polls indicate that 40 percent of Canadians prefer Pierre Poliviere, the leader of the Conservative party, as their next prime minister, while Trudeau, the leader of the Liberal party, trails behind with only 31 percent support.
A survey conducted by Ipsos for Global News suggests that if elections were held today, the Conservative party would win a majority. Poliviere’s popularity has been steadily increasing compared to previous polls, with a five-point gain over the past year.
Trudeau’s coalition partner, Jagmeet Singh of the New Democratic Party, has also seen a decline in support, with only 22 percent of Canadians considering him the best choice for prime minister.
This poll comes amid a standoff between Trudeau and the Indian government. Trudeau has accused India of involvement in the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Sikh citizen designated as a terrorist by India. India has denied these allegations, calling them “absurd and motivated.”
Trudeau’s provincial governments have criticized him, especially since India halted a trade deal with Canada indefinitely. Canadians have shown support for Poliveire’s plans to address issues like the housing crisis, the economy, and healthcare.
In addition to the Ipsos poll, a survey from July indicated that the public considers Justin Trudeau the worst prime minister Canada has had in over 50 years, with his father, Pierre Trudeau, enjoying more popularity during his time as prime minister from 1968 to 1979 and 1980 to 1984.
The opposition parties in Canada and a significant portion of the Canadian population have been opposing Justin Trudeau for a long time.
After recent events, they have begun asking for Justin Trudeau’s resignation. Trudeau’s international visits have often garnered controversy, and they negatively affected Canada’s reputation on the global stage.
Recently, Trudeau invited Ukraine’s President Zelensky to the Canadian Parliament. It’s worth noting that President Zelensky and his cabinet have faced allegations of misappropriating $400 million.

Zelensky has been accused of orchestrating attacks within his own country, causing harm to Ukrainian citizens, engaging in a display of military force, and then making deals with Russia.
As Trudeau and Zelensky were leaving the parliament building to go to a hotel, a large crowd of people protested against them. According to some reports, individuals in the crowd even abused and showed banners to express their dissatisfaction.
