Bumrah Smashes World Record For Most Runs In An Over In Test Against Stuart Broad

In the fifth Test at Edgbaston, Jasprit Bumrah crushed Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over, breaking the previous record for the most runs scored in an over.

Bumrah breaks the record for the most runs scored in an over in a Test between England and India. The previous record was set by Brian Lara, George Bailey, and Keshav Maharaj, who each scored 28 in a single over.

In his first Test as captain, Jasprit Bumrah set a world record by scoring 29 runs off in front of a Stuart Broad over on Saturday’s 2nd day of the 5th Test Match against England at Edgbaston.

Bumrah scored a single from the 8-ball over, which also contained a no-ball plus a wide that was hit for a boundary, in addition to hitting four 4s and a few 6s. Broad was responsible for the loss of 35 runs throughout the over.

Yuvraj Singh smashed Broad for six 6s in one over at the opening T20 World Cup in South Africa, earning him the unfortunate luck.

The Indian first innings came to an end on 416 as Bumrah finished not-out on 31 runs off 16 balls and contributed 41 with Mohammed Siraj (2) for the last wicket.

Broad’s Bad Performance

Broad was bowling to Jasprit Bumrah and his over read 4, Wd5, N6, 4, 4, 4, 6, 1. He now has the world record for conceding most runs in an over in both Tests and T20Is.

Back in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 against India at Durban, Broad had conceded 36 runs as Yuvraj Singh smashed him for six sixes.

The Last Broken Records In Tests

In the meantime, India’s acting captain Bumrah has now scored the most runs ever in a Test innings (35).

Brian Lara against R. Peterson in Johannesburg in 2003, G. Bailey against James Anderson in Perth in 2013, as well as Keshav Maharaj against Joe Root in Port Elizabeth in 2020 set the previous record with 28 runs scored.
