British Children’s TV Show ‘Peppa Pig’ Features Lesbian Couple

Peppa Pig, a children cartoon TV show introduced same-sex couple after petition for more LGBTQ characters in UK. It centers on a Polar Bear and her 2 mothers.

Peppa Pig, a British children’s television programme, introduces a lesbian couple (same sexes parents).

Following years of requests for more LGBTQ characters on the show, the well-liked British children’s programme “Peppa Pig” has now featured its first same-sex coupling, two lesbian polar bears.

The main character Peppa Pig is informed by Penny the Polar Bear that she has “two mummies” in an episode that aired on Tuesday on Channel 5 in the UK.

Penny also paints a portrait of herself holding hands with the two mothers.

In the episode, “Families,” Penny says, “I live with my mummy and my other mummy.” One of her mothers is a doctor, she continues.

According to its production firm, Entertainment One, the animated series, which centered on a 4-year-old piglet and her family, has been dubbed into 40 languages and broadcast in more than 180 nations and territories, including the United States.

It has been dubbed a “global sensation,” although some have said that by portraying a nuclear family with a working dad and a stay-at-home mom, it reinforces gender stereotypes.

The show, which has been on the air for almost 20 years and earned three BAFTA awards, was originally petitioned to include same-sex parents in 2019.

Over the past few years, the petition has gathered close to 25,000 signatures.

Children who watch Peppa Pig are at a formative age, and the petition claims that including same-sex families will inform them that only households with either a single parent or two parents of same sexes are normal.

Peppa Pig isn’t just about fun—kids are inexorably learning from it, too.

The new plot is in response to recent criticism of LGBTQ representation in previous kid-targeted musicals. The Pixar “Toy Story” spinoff “Lightyear” was banned from theatres this summer in a number of Muslim-majority countries due to a kiss between homosexual characters.

In June, a cinema in Oklahoma that was showing the movie issued a warning sign stating that staff members would do “everything we can” to skip the sequence.

Tuesday, what seemed to be Gulf Arab nations ordered Netflix to take down any “offensive content,” apparently referring to shows with LGBTQ protagonists.

The public relations company named for “Peppa Pig,” License to PR, could not be accessed for comment, and it took some time for them to react to a comment request.
