Breaking: ED Raid Against Minister From Tamil Nadu & His Son

According to PTI reports the ED on Monday conducted raids against  Tamil Nadu and DMK leader who is Higher Education Minister, K Ponmudi in a money laundering case.

The offices of K Ponmudy and his MP son Gautham Sigamani are the targets of ED raids in Villupuram and Chennai, the state capital.

Money laundering case that occurred while Ponmudy was a minister

The money laundering case examines the contracts and transactions made on Ponmudy’s behalf while he served as the state’s mining minister (between 2007 and 2011). Additionally, there were allegations of quarry license conditions being broken, which resulted in a loss to the exchequer of about 28 crores.

The Tamil Nadu police have opened an investigation into these allegations of alleged corruption against the minister and those associated with him. On Sigamani’s request in his relief petition, the Madras High Court declined to postpone the trial in the case in June of this year.

Accusations against Minister of Tamil Nadu-K Ponmudy of the DMK

The state minister is charged with getting mining and quarry permits for his son and other relatives. These licensees are alleged to have extracted more red sand than was allowed.

According to the High Court, there are reasons to believe that the petitioner committed the crime, so the trial cannot be halted.

MK Stalin, the president of the DMK and the state’s chief minister, was recently scheduled to attend the Congress-led opposition meeting in Bengaluru. The ruling party in Tamil Nadu claimed that under Stalin’s direction, it had been actively confronting the BJP and that the ED’s action was intended to “intimidate” it. The DMK’s resolve is being tested by this political vendetta, according to party spokesperson A Saravanan, speaking to PTI.

Additionally, he claimed that no such action had been taken by the Central authorities against the AIADMK leaders in corruption cases like the one involving the Gutka scandal.
