BJP slams Farooq Abdullah for his shocking statement on the ‘Article 370’

Last updated on February 17th, 2023 at 12:58 pm

On Monday, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) distinctly criticized the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr. Farooq Abdullah on his recent remarks on seeking China’s help in restoring the abolished Article 370 in J&K.

The controversy intensified when Dr. Abdullah made remarks during a television interview with India Today on Sunday. In which he stated that the face-off between India and China in the Eastern Ladakh region was a direct outcome of the removal of Article 370, The Hindustan Times reported.

China, on the other hand, has also not accepted the removal of Article 370. Abdullah added that he was hopeful that the special status of the state would be restored by China’s help.

Whereas the National Conference has completely denounced reports regarding any such statements by the former leader, NC stated that Dr. Abdullah’s comments were twisted and misunderstood. It stated that their leader had never justified the expansionist or aggressive intentions of China, which has been claimed by the BJP, The Hindustan Times reported.

As per the constitution of India, Article 370 is a temporary provision that provided special status to the Jammu and Kashmir State. Under which the State had a certain amount of autonomy.

It had the freedom to have its own constitution, the legal system, freedom to make law, have their own flag, except the defense and communications, and foreign relations were in the controls of the Central Government.

BJP leader and spokesperson Sambit Patra criticized Dr. Abdullah’s recent comments mentioning that his remarks were seditious and anti-national. As per Dr. Abdullah’s views, China’s aggression is due to the removal of article 370 and that China is very disturbed with the new reform.

Sambit angrily shunned the comments of the senior opposition leader and said that he seems to justify China’s expansionist intentions.

The Opposition leaders have full right to criticize the administration but to urge foreign powers due to frustration with PM Modi is improper, Sambit added.

However, the National Conference asserted that their senior leader Dr. Abdullah has many times articulated the anger of people over the removal of Article 370 and 35-A by the legislature since 2019. He has been stressing that no one in the region was ready to accept or welcome the sudden change, NC added.
