With eyes on Rajasthan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will flag off the Parivartan Yatra on September 2 and 3 just ahead of the Assembly election in November-December this year. The ruling party aims to cover 2,400 km and 52 seats in 19 days.
This ambitious yatra will be flagged off by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP’s national president J.P. Nadda. The Parivatan Yatra will start from Beneshwar Dham, and cover Mewar, Vagad and Hadauti regions, York, Udaipur, Banswara, and Kota divisions.
Rajasthan’s former chief minister Vasundhara Raje and the BJP’s former state chief Satish Poonia, and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, among others, were to lead different legs of the yatra. But this has been put on hold because of the in-fighting within the party’s state unit. Sources say party workers affiliated with different camps within the Rajasthan BJP are not showing enthusiasm for the yatra as it will not be flagged off by their respective leaders.
A senior Rajasthan BJP leader said individual state leaders are not leading the different legs of the yatra, so their workers are not showing much interest. “We are yet to create a favorable environment.” Rajasthan BJP was inflicted with the same problem last year. Raje, Poonia, Shekhawat and Gulab Chand Kataria all have eyes on the CMship.

Despite the conflict, BJP wants to oust the Congress government. Both parties are set to tussle over the CM’s seat. The Rajasthan Congress State President Govind Singh Dotasara says work has started in regard to the ticket selection for the Rajasthan Assembly elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also vying for Rajasthan.
It should be noted that BJP and Congress are the two main parties always coming to power in this poll-bound state. And neither have been able to retain it for a second term.
