Bindyarani Devi Ranks 25th In World Weightlifting Championships

The World Championship 2022 is the first event that qualifies athletes for 2024’s Paris Olympics. Weightlifting competitions will be held from 14 to 10 at the Tokyo Games.

Commonwealth Games medallist weightlifter S. Bindyarani Devi placed 26th overall in the female 59kg competition in the World Championships.

The Manipuri athlete, who won a silver medal at the Birmingham CWG in the 55kg category, lifted 200kg (86 kg + 114 kg) on Thursday.

Bindyarani participated in Group D, based on her weight entry. The lifters who have the highest weight for entry are placed in group A, then B, and so on.

The 23-year-old started her snatch off with a strong lift of 83kg . She continued to lift 85kg, but fell short in her final attempt at an 88 kg weight.

She also failed her initial clean and jerk effort of 112 kg, as she could not produce an “clean” lifting, which is lifting the barbell up to her shoulders.

On her second attempt, at similar weights, Bindyarani did manage to achieve a “clean” lift, but before she was able to “jerk” the barbell overhead to an arms length she fell onto her back.

But this year’s Commonwealth Championship gold medallist was shortly up and walking after doctors examined her.

Bindyarani was able to display a tremendous amount of determination when she attempted the third clean jerk lifting of 114 kg, and she was successful.

On Tuesday, world-class Indian lifter Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal at the 49kg competition.

The World Championship 2022 World Championship is the first event that qualifies athletes in 2024’s Paris Olympics.

Weightlifting competitions will be held from 14 at the Tokyo Games to 10 at the Tokyo Games. But, it’s an extra event, and it is not compulsory.

According to 2024’s Olympic qualification rules A lifter is required to participate at the 2023 World Championships and the 2024 World Cup.

Beyond that lifting, the athlete also has to take part in the following events : the 2022 World Cup as well as the 2023 Continental Championships, the 2023 Grand Prix 1, the 2023 Grand Prix II and the 2024 Continental Championships.

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) will announce its Olympic Qualification Rating (OQR) for each weight class at the conclusion of the qualifying period.

The weightlifter’s top three performances during competitions qualifying will be considered to determine the final score.
