Bihar reports its first Covid-19 death, deceased came from Qatar

On Sunday, Bihar reported its first death caused by Covid-19, the respiratory disease caused by coronavirus. Superintendent CM Singh said that 38-year old man had travel history to Qatar.

The patient Saif Ali (38), who died at AIIMS Patna was a resident of Munger district in Bihar, was admitted to the hospital on Friday after facing an issue with his kidney.

However, after observation doctors noticed that he was also suffering from lung infection, following which the hospital sent his swab samples to the Rajendra Memorial Research Institute (RMRI), Patna.

Mr Singh said that Ali was put on dialysis and lost his life on Saturday night, but his test results for the virus from RMRI arrive only on Sunday morning.

Singh added that the hospital authorities are suspecting six more patients to have contracted the disease, are currently awaiting their test results from RMRI.

Ali was the youngest person to die of COVID-19 in the country. Experts have warned that the nation’s surge in cases represent an increasing trend similar to the early stages of the virus outbreak in other countries, which over some time reached an exponential level.

Sunday witnessed the highest jump in coronavirus cases in a single day as 81 new cases were reported. With this the total number of cases in India have reached 396 and the health departments are anticipated more amid the fears of community transmission.

On Sunday, India observed a nation-wide lockdown to curtail the spread of the disease. Government also issued an advisory urging the states to completely shut 80 coronavirus-hit districts, and also suspended all trains, metro services and inter-state buses as a preventive measure.
