Bihar Election: NDA emerges in clear lead, BJP might be single largest party Bihar is in on edge as nerve-wrecking vote counting is underway for state’s 243 assembly constituencies. The alliance between BJP and JD(U) is leading with incumbent Nitish Kumar as head. He is competing against Tejashwi Yadav led Mahagathbandhan, comprised of RJD, Congress and Left parties. With many rounds of votes counting left, NDA currently appears in lead.
Election Commission of India has said that still majority of votes are left to be counted to establish a clear ground of which party is leading. The Commission relayed that out of 4.10 crore votes just 1 crore votes have been counted. The result must be expected to come by later tonight.
Bihar BJP spokesman Sanjay Singh Tiger, citing the BJP-JD(U) clear lead, said that it was the result of efforts of the “double engine” governments — NDA at the Centre as well in the state. He said, “The people know Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar can speed up development of the state and hence they have reposed their faith in the NDA.
Current trend is showing NDA ahead of the Mahagathbandhan, having crossed half way mark of 122 seats to secure the majority. Though the results are still awaited for some time, BJP is emerging as a major party in Bihar which was always a minority in the alliance. Furthermore, LJP (Lok Janshakti Party) is set to improve its tally under leadership of Chirag Paswan. LJP an dother small parties may have a significant share in government if NDA falls short of reaching the half way mark.
