Big Fight in Round 3 of Lok Sabha Voting

An important round of voting happened on Tuesday for the Lok Sabha elections. Voters in some big states like Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh went to cast their votes. In total, there were 93 constituencies across 12 states and union territories that voted in this round. Winning a good number of these seats is very crucial for all the major parties to get close to the final target of 272 seats to form the government.

A Wide Test Across India

While every round of voting matters, this 3rd phase stood out as it covered a wide part of the country. From the Hindi-speaking areas of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to the western states of Gujarat and Maharashtra, from Chhattisgarh in Central India to Assam and West Bengal in the East – this phase gave a sense of how voters were thinking across many regions. More than 1300 candidates, including 120 women, contested in this round, giving a peek into the changing opinions among different communities.

Big Names in the Contest

Some very prominent leaders were also contesting in this phase, making it more interesting to watch. People like Home Minister Amit Shah, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya were in the fray. Former Chief Ministers from Madhya Pradesh like Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Digvijaya Singh were also closely watched. For parties like Samajwadi and NCP, senior leaders Dimple Yadav and Supriya Sule had a lot riding on their performances.

BJP’s Strong Record

In the previous 2019 elections, BJP had done exceptionally well across these 93 seats, winning 72 of them. This time, its performance in states like Gujarat where it has ruled for long, Karnataka where it recently came to power, and Uttar Pradesh which is its strongest area, will be deeply analyzed. A repeat of its 2019 success could firmly put BJP on course for another term while any slips may require some tough maneuvers later.

Opposition’s Make-or-Break?

For Opposition parties like Congress, this phase was likely their last major chance to impact the overall narrative. With BJP’s dominance across several states, parties like Congress, Samajwadi and others find the going tough. Good performances here could reinvigorate their campaigns while a poor show may force them to rethink plans.

As this crucial round of voting ends, its results on counting day will have a major say in deciding who finally forms the next government and leads India for the next five years.
