Bhashini: Indian Govt Builds AI-Powered Language Translation Platform

India is developing an AI-powered language translation platform called ‘Bhashini’ to promote digital inclusion for all sections of society. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this at the G20 Digital Economy Ministers’ meeting. The platform aims to support digital inclusion in all the diverse languages spoken in India.

PM Modi highlighted India’s progress in digital inclusion, attributing it to the availability of some of the cheapest data consumption rates in the world. 

He also mentioned the success of India’s digital identity platform, Aadhar, which covers over 1.3 billion people and has revolutionized financial inclusion in the country.

PM Modi emphasized the importance of conviction, commitment, coordination, and collaboration in building an ecosystem for technology-based solutions to address global challenges. He expressed India’s readiness to share its knowledge and findings with the world.

The Prime Minister presented India’s diversity as an advantage for testing and implementing digital solutions. He called for consensus on high-level principles for a secure, trusted, and resilient digital economy within the G20. 

PM Modi also stressed the need to create a framework for the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.

He highlighted the success of India’s Digital India campaign, launched in 2014, in promoting national financial inclusivity. PM Modi described India’s digital transformation as unprecedented, driven by innovation, speedy implementation, and a spirit of inclusion.

PM Modi emphasized the reach and impact of India’s digital infrastructure, including the Aadhaar digital identity system and the UPI instant payment system. 

He announced the development of ‘Bhashini,’ an AI-powered language translation platform that will be available in all Indian languages.

India’s upcoming AI language translation platform  ‘Bhashini’ will enhance digital inclusion by providing language support in diverse languages spoken in India.
