Delhi -one of the most popular initiatives taken by the government in order to increase the literacy rate of the country and promote girls’ child education is Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative. Though started with a noble through process, the result has not been as favorable as one once imagined.

Till now the government has invested a lot in the invite but did you know that 80 percent of the funds have been used on media campaigns.

This amount of money could have been used to drive children to schools, make arrangements regarding their meal plans, provide toilets in the schools and implement some of the profitable schemes that can benefit girls in the long run.

The Parliamentary Committee on Empowerment of Women compiled this report where it noted the neglect of the core issues. They said, “Now, it is time to focus on other verticals to help achieve measurable outcomes related to education and health.”

The report stated that the finding revealed that out of a total of ₹446.72 crores in three years, from 2016 to 2019, 78.91% was spent only on media advocacy. It also added that now time to instead focus on other verticals so that financial provisions of the schemes can be highlighted more and education-related outcomes can be achieved.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the initiative in 2015 and through this, the center aimed to tackle elective abortion and the declining child sex ratio, which was 918 girls for every 1,000 boys in 2011–the year’s census was last done. The program has a huge reach and is being implemented in 405 districts all over the country.
