The Bangalore city flooded after severe rain. Waterlogging disrupted whole traffic. Local authorities had to send boats to rescue citizens.
On Sunday night, Bengaluru was hit by torrential rains that flooded numerous streets and residential areas, forcing residents to wade through knee-deep water.
Authorities in some regions were required to dispatch boats to evacuate residents. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the city’s civic organization, has also provided helpline numbers.
According to reports, the most impacted areas included Bellandur, Sarjapur Road, Whitefield, Outer Ring Road, and BEML Layout.
While Whitefield recorded over 116mm, many areas apparently received over 100mm. Whitefield to Spice Garden was entirely cut off by traffic.
Some high-profile communities are experiencing waterlogging for the first time, and the inhabitants there have asked CM Basavaraj Bommai for assistance.
The local security officers had to rescue many commuters who became caught on the flooded highways.
Heavy rain was expected in Bengaluru, three coastal districts, and hilly areas of Karnataka through Friday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to a report by Deccan Herald, the downpour may have been caused by a cloudburst, and Sunday was described as the wettest day ever recorded in Bengaluru.
The IMD released a yellow alert for these regions – Kodagu, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Chikmagalur.
Stormwater drains began to overflow, causing traffic on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road, which links the city to the IT parks outside of the city, to become backed up.
Vehicles were also partially flooded in the EcoSpace area on the Marathahalli-Silk Board Junction Road.
Outer Ring Road, Sarjapur Road, Doddakannelli Road, as well as Bellandur Road were warned against by the traffic police. It was advised that they take different routes instead.
