Bajaj MD nails the India pandemic response as ‘Wild West’

Top courts to sit together to see how inter-state movement has to happen. Maharashtra is already experiencing a spike in numbers.

Delhi numbers have suddenly gone up as well. According to a recent conversation between industrialist Rajiv Bajaj and Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi, “India seems to have flattened the wrong curve.” They are both referring to the GDP rate going down and the falling economic growth rate in India due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Further Bajaj went onto to say on a video conversation with Gandhi that unfortunately, “India’s lockdown was more porous and has just lead to decimating the economy instead. We tried but seems like we had ended up with the worst of both worlds. We seem to have flattened the wrong curve. It is definitely not the infection numbers that are seeing a decrease.”

Delhi borders are facing a chaos. The Supreme court has intervened asking the Centre to end the unpleasantness getting the heads of Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on one page and figure a way out to allow interstate transport to move. Further, the SC has directed that the state governments should be in consensus over a common pass to be recognized all over the NCR.

Bajaj might have just hit it at the point as he said to the one person who has been extremely vocal and against the Modi endeavors ever since the lockdown was put in place in late March, “every country was trying to find a middle path between an impervious lockdown and a business-as-usual approach. I think, unfortunately, India not only looked west, it went to the Wild West.”

While it is said, some states have ease their labour laws and opened discussions over manufacturers shifting shop from China to India, the overall picture of those below the poverty line and the migrant population does not look very promising.
