Bajaj Auto has opened a new electric vehicle (EV) facility in Akrudi to help improve Chetak’s output. They unveiled the opening of its new electric vehicle production unit in Akurdi, Pune.
Bajaj Auto will be able to meet orders for its electric scooters thanks to the recently opened Akrudi EV facility.
The new facility was dedicated on the late Shri Rahul Bajaj’s birthday (June 10), according to the corporation.
Bajaj had previously only sold the first Chetak in Akrudi in the 1970s. After then, the same scooter became a symbol and a household name in India.
Bajaj Motors today unveiled a new electric vehicle manufacturing line at its Pune factory, with the goal of producing 5,000 Chetak electric scooters each month, according to the company.
The business is now bringing its all-electric two-wheeler under the Chetak Technology Limited banner, and the new factory will produce 5 lakh two-wheelers.
In October 2019, Bajaj debuted their iconic Chetak scooter in an electric version. It had a positive reception at first, however manufacturing was reduced owing to Kovid.
In such a case, the firm had to cease taking reservations for a while, and while it was initially only available in two locations, it is now available in all of the country’s main cities.
As the situation improves, demand for this electric scooter is expected to rise, and the business is planning to put up a dedicated production line to meet this need.
Bajaj believes that they will create roughly 5000 units of Chetak each month; the firm manufactured 2500 units in May, which was the greatest number to date.
Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj questioned the production methods of the expanding count of EV (electric vehicle) startups and recent occurrences of fires in some EVs on Friday.
It seems he was trying to target OLA electric scooters. He stated people who have no experience with electric cars are seeking to get into the company.
He made this statement during the opening of Chetak Technology Ltd.’s electric vehicle production factory, which is a fully incorporated subsidiary of Bajaj Auto.
Bajaj Chetak has had over 16,000 reservations so far, and over 14,000 Chetak bikes have been delivered. The firm is seeing increased demand from all throughout the country, so it has chosen to ramp up production. In the near future, the business plans to raise output to 800 electric scooters each day.
