Badminton Asia Team Championships: Anmol Kharb Wins 3-2 Win Against China

India’s women’s badminton team had a stunning victory over China in the Badminton Asia Team Championships. PV Sindhu, who was returning from a knee injury, won her match against Yue Han in straight games.

However, India fell behind as the doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto lost, followed by Ashmita Chaliha in the second singles match.

But Gayatri Gopichand and Jolly Treesa won their doubles match, setting the stage for 16-year-old Anmol Kharb to secure the victory for India in a thrilling three-game battle.

Sindhu’s win is significant as she is trying to regain peak form after her injury and prepare for the All England Open and the Olympic Games in Paris.

She has recently moved her training base to Bengaluru and is under the guidance of legendary player Prakash Padukone.

Winning at big tournaments like the Badminton Asia Team Championships will help her in her quest for an Olympic gold medal.

The Indian men’s team, which has had recent successes in the Thomas Cup and the Asian Games, will also be competing in the tournament. They will face Hong Kong in their next match.

Last month, Anmol Kharb won the All-India Senior Ranking Badminton tournament in Jodhpur. This victory had come right after she became the youngest national champion in Indian badminton history in December 2023.

In the final match, Anmol lost the first game but made a comeback to defeat Aalisha Naik from Maharashtra. Throughout the tournament, Anmol caused upsets by defeating strong opponents.

Anmol Kharb beat players like S Rakshitha Sree, Navya Kanderi, and Shruti Mundada to reach the finals. Anmol proved that she is one of the fastest-rising stars in Indian badminton.

For now, India’s victory over China in the Badminton Asia Team Championships is a remarkable achievement. PV Sindhu’s return to competitive action was impressive, and her win against Yue Han showcased her renewed confidence.

The young Anmol Kharb’s performance in the deciding singles match was outstanding, displaying her grit and talent.

India’s win against the traditional powerhouses solidifies their position as table toppers in Group W. This victory is a significant boost for the Indian team, and it sets a positive tone for their future matches in the tournament.
