India’s women’s badminton team had a stunning victory over China in the Badminton Asia Team Championships. PV Sindhu, who was returning from a knee injury, won her match against Yue Han in straight games.
However, India fell behind as the doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto lost, followed by Ashmita Chaliha in the second singles match.
But Gayatri Gopichand and Jolly Treesa won their doubles match, setting the stage for 16-year-old Anmol Kharb to secure the victory for India in a thrilling three-game battle.
Sindhu’s win is significant as she is trying to regain peak form after her injury and prepare for the All England Open and the Olympic Games in Paris.
She has recently moved her training base to Bengaluru and is under the guidance of legendary player Prakash Padukone.
Winning at big tournaments like the Badminton Asia Team Championships will help her in her quest for an Olympic gold medal.
The Indian men’s team, which has had recent successes in the Thomas Cup and the Asian Games, will also be competing in the tournament. They will face Hong Kong in their next match.
