Aviation Minister Scindia Makes A Surprise Visit To Delhi Airport

Amid complaints of overcrowding & long queues by the passengers, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia visited the Delhi International airport & took immediate actions.

The Union Minister of Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Monday, visited the Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), Delhi, in the wake of complaints about traffic jams and overcrowding.

The minister of the union can be seen talking to staff at the airport and giving them instruction.

According to reports, following conducting the audit, Scindia was able to gather all people involved in a room in the Delhi airport office and key directions were issued to them (with dates for each). The sources said that the changes could be implemented within 6 to 7 days.

This is just a few days after Scindia called a meeting of the management and officials of the major airports across the country. 

The meeting was held following complaints about traffic jams, staff shortages and delays caused by crowds were made public.

The airport is overcrowded and lengthy lines have been reported on social media and officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) have put together a four-point plan of action to be implemented immediately as corrections.

It was previously reported that Scindia may plan to conduct an unannounced check at Delhi Airport Terminal 3. 

In the last couple of days, travelers have been posting their experiences on Twitter concerning the chaotic scene of The Delhi terminal, a lot of people posting pictures of lengthy lines for security checks.

The inefficient checking process and the rush in the lounge showed the inefficiency of airport officials. 

Customers have complained about having to wait two to 3 hours at the clearing area prior to the air flight’s departure.

The four-point plan of action includes increasing the number of X-Ray screening systems up to 16. This will be at airports. 

The expansion of one Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) machine, as well as two regular X-Ray machines. In addition two entry points – Gate 1A as well as Gate 8B are to be converted for use by passengers.
