Assam To Cross ₹6.8 Lakh Crore GDP In Next 3 Years: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured that Assam’s GDP has already beat Chndigarh & Chhattisgarh, and now it will also cross Punjab’s GDP.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, promised the assembly on Wednesday that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) will surpass Punjab’s in the following three years to move up to the 16th spot in the national rankings.

The state government is riding a strong economy while keeping the debt-to-GDP ratio at 23%. They were reliant on central support to pay our staff’ salaries up until last year.

On the first of every month, they can now pay their employees’ salaries on their own. They are paying as much in DA as the federal government does.

Assam is currently ranked 17th overall in terms of gross state domestic product, whereas Punjab is ranked 16th. They are presently pursuing Punjab after passing Chhattisgarh and Chandigarh.

Punjab’s current market value is about Rs 6.8 lakh crore, while ours will be Rs 5.5 lakh crore. Assam’s GDP will surpass Punjab’s in three years. We will surpass Punjab in three years, Himanta Sarma declared.

Sarma downplayed the opposition’s charge that the government has been borrowing excessively by pointing out that its debts are nearly 10% lower than the limits set by the RBI.

“Taking on debt doesn’t indicate weakness. It implies that the borrower can make timely repayments. States governed by Congress all perform worse than us in terms of borrowing money and paying it back. This is Assam’s true situation, he remarked.

Ajanta Neog, the state’s finance minister, will present the state budget to the assembly on Thursday, and according to CM Sarma, it would include a large-scale self-employment programme.

He also said that the budget would include significant programmes for reducing poverty, such as housing and health insurance.

“Our goal is to combat poverty on all fronts. We continuously develop new tactics to combat poverty, such as offering ration cards, health insurance, housing programmes, and electrification initiatives. Tomorrow’s state budget will include these changes, Sarma assured the assembly.

As promised before the elections, the administration will provide one lakh jobs to unemployed youths by May of this year, marking a significant stride towards the development of the state, according to the chief minister.
