Assam Aims Guinness Record With 11k Bihu Performers, Gets ₹14k Cr Projects

11,000 Bihu dancers & drummers will perform in a mega Bihu event. PM Modi will launch projects in Assam worth ₹14,300 crore including Northeast’s first AIIMS.

With a massive event including 11,000 performers performing traditional Bihu dance at Guwahati’s Sarusajai stadium on Thursday, Assam hopes to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The occasion is being hosted to commemorate the start of the Assamese New Year, also known as Rongali or Bohag Bihu.

The event, which starts at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, features performers who have traveled from various sections of the state. In the past, it was anticipated that the performers would take the stage on Friday in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence for the Guinness Book of World Records induction.

The plan had been modified though, so they could get the certificate on Friday once the entry was made. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, told the media that there will be two records—one for the Bihu dance and the other for drumming. The Prime Minister is expected to dedicate a number of state development initiatives on Friday.

The first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the Northeast will be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Guwahati. He will also unveil a number of development initiatives totaling Rs 14,300 crore in Assam.

Additionally, he will begin work on beautifying Rang Ghar, lay the cornerstone for the Assam Advanced Health Care Innovation Institute, and give out Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) cards to qualified recipients.

PM Modi will preside over a public event including a gigantic Bihu dance performed by more than 10,000 performers as part of the Gauhati High Court’s platinum jubilee festivities.
