Asian Championship: Indian Hockey Team To Clash With China, Pakistan

The Indian men’s hockey team is set to kick off their Asian Champions Trophy campaign against China on the first day of the tournament. The event will take place from August 3 to 12.

The last game of the tournament’s opening day at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium will have hosts India and China against each other.

India is scheduled to play against Japan on August 4th, following their recent match against China.

According to the schedule published by the Asian Hockey Federation on Tuesday, the hosts are set to face Malaysia on August 6 and Korea on August 7.

In the upcoming league-stage match on August 9, India is set to face off against their arch-rivals Pakistan.

Six teams from Asia are set to compete in an upcoming tournament for the ultimate prize. The participating countries include South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan, China, and India.

Each team will battle it out to emerge as the champion. In a league system, all teams will be placed in one pool and their place on the points table will be determined accordingly.

In the upcoming tournament, the defending champions South Korea are set to face off against Japan in the opening match.

The dates for the semifinals and finals of the upcoming event have been announced. The semi-finals are set to take place on August 11, followed by the summit clash on August 12.

The Indian men’s hockey team and Pakistan have emerged as the most successful nations in the history of the tournament, with three titles each.

The Indian team claimed victory in 2011, 2016, and 2018, while Pakistan secured their wins in 2012, 2013, and 2018.

These two teams have established themselves as the most decorated and accomplished participants in the tournament.

Dilip Tirkey, the President of Hockey India, expressed his delight at the news of Chennai being chosen to host the Hero Asian Champions Trophy in 2023. He stated that the announcement of the schedule was a significant milestone, as it marked the beginning of the tournament.

In a recent statement, an avid hockey fan expressed his hopes for the upcoming tournament.

“While I would certainly love to see the Indian Men’s Hockey Team emerge victorious, I am confident that all participating nations will showcase exceptional hockey and give their best performance,” he stated.

The President of the Asian Hockey Federation, Dato Fumio Ogura, has announced that the upcoming tournament will be a remarkable display of hockey, highlighting the outstanding skills and solidarity of Asian hockey.
