Arnab Goswami attacked; Sonia Gandhi’s reply

Arnab Goswami, Indian Journalist who is the editor of the news channel Republic TV. Arnab Goswami is well-known for his News anchoring style and conducting Political Debates. On the past midnight of wednesday(April 22,2020), Mumbai police recieved a complaint from Arnab Goswami that he and he got attacked along with his wife while they were driving back home from the studios.

And today, India woke up various hashtags supporting Arnab Goswami and condemning the attack on him and his wife in Twitter and various platforms.

Arnab Goswami’s controversial statement

Arnab Goswami known for his debate shows was conducting a debate on April 21st about Palghar mob lynching of two sadhus and made some controversial statements about Congress Leader Sonia Gandhi. Arnab said “In India, being a Hindu and wearing the orange colour has become a sin. I ask that if a maulvi had been killed, would people be silent? Would Sonia Gandhi, who hails from Italy, be quite? Today, she is silent… I think she is happy in her heart that saints are being attacked in a state where she has formed the government. She will send a report to Italy saying that ‘Where I formed government, I am getting saints killed,’”. It is also said that Arnab mentioned about Sonia Gandhi as ‘Antonia Maino’ her Italian name.

Midnight attack on Arnab Goswami

After a day of that particular controversial debate Arnab Goswami was attacked. Later the attack, Republic TV Editor Arnab Goswami filed a police complaint and also publicized a self-made video of him expressing his anger about the attack. Arnab breifs about the attack that two men on a motorbike were following his car from the studio and blocked the path after certain time. The man who blocked the path, immediatley then took a liquid bottle from his pocket and threw it over the Arnab Goswami, who was

sitting in driver seat.

Arnab in his complaint mentioned strongly about Congress and a tweet by party leader Alka Lamba “just three hours after the attack” to the Mumbai Police.

Union minister Prakash Javadekar condemned severely about the attack on Arnab Goswami at midnight and said “This is against democracy and it is really ironical that those who preach tolerance have become so intolerant. Therefore we condemn this attempt,”.

Sonia Gandhi’s in Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting

Understanding the situation that Congress is being condemned soley for the attack on Arnab Goswami after such a controversial statement, the Congress Party Leader Sonia Gandhi addressed the incident indirectly at Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting.

Sonia Gandhi, blames Bharatiya Janata Party that they’re spreading communal hatred in the country,causing ‘grave damage’ to India’s social harmony for which the Congress members should work tirelessly to repair the damage caused. Sonia Gandhi also said,””Let me also share with you something that should worry each and every one as Indians. When we should be tackling the coronavirus unitedly, the BJP continues to spread the virus of communal prejudice and hatred,”.

Sonia Gandhi, Congress Party Leader doesn’t talked about the attack on Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami.
