As per a report in India Today, seven army men have been confirmed to be dead during an avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh. They were stuck there in February and the reports about their status were only recently confirmed.
The Indian army said that the bodies have been retrieved from the site which essentially confirms the news. The latest development shows that the Armed personals had airlifted the search and taken the rescue team to the location.
The report also said that the Army stated that the area where the avalanche happened was towards the inclement weather where heavy snowfall was also taking place for many days. Due to this, their bodies were buried under the snow and it took time to trace them.
As the incident came into view, Defense minister Rajnath Singh took to Twitter to express his condolences. He said that it deeply pains him to see this Army personnel die in the avalanche.
“These brave soldiers lost their lives while serving the nation. I salute their courage and service. My heartfelt condolences to their bereaved families,” he added. Later on, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also grieved for the loss saying that his thoughts and prayers are always with their families. “Their selfless service to the nation will always be remembered,” he said.
