Apple App Store to sell ads space, show more ads on platform

Apple used to display advertisements on its App Store, but the tech giant is now expanding the quantity of advertisements displayed in the app. Developers can now pay to display advertising in the Today Tab, whereas previously they could only be seen in the search tab and search results. As of the most recent modification to the App Store guidelines, iOS developers must employ in-app purchases to generate revenue (Apple receives a 30% share) from the selling of “boosts” for posts made through social media apps.

“Digital purchases for content that is experienced or consumed in an app, including buying adverts to appear in the same app, must use in-app purchase,” according to the official statement.

In particular, this marks the first occasion that Apple has paid iOS developers directly for advertising in iOS apps. These apps include Facebook, Instagram, and others that demand money from users in order to enhance their posts.

According to a rumour by MacRumours, Apple will begin selling ad space within its “Today” tab and at the bottom of individual app listings on October 25 in nations other than China. To distinguish them from other suggestions, these ads will have a blue backdrop and a symbol with the word “Ad” printed on it.

According to the website of Apple, “With a Today tab ad, your app can display prominently on the top page of the App Store — making it some of the first material users view when they start their App Store visit.” The App Store editorial team used to hand-pick the advertisements that appeared on the Today’s Tab. The creators will be running advertisements in this section for the first time at this time.

The Apple App Store will now display adverts in a total of four places, including the “You Might Also Like” portion of the Today Tab.
