Anurag Thakur Asks US Not To Interfere Over Rahul Gandhi Row

Indian Union Minister Anurag Thakur, responds to the US State Department’s concerns over the detention of Rahul Gandhi, dismissing it as an internal matter.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, has responded to the recent comments made by the US State Department regarding the ongoing political situation in India. 

Thakur dismissed the US comments as an “internal matter” and stated that India’s democratic processes were functioning properly.

The comments came in response to a statement issued by the US State Department expressing concern over the detention of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Gandhi was detained by police in Uttar Pradesh last week while on his way to meet with the family of a farmer who had been killed during recent protests against new agricultural laws.

Thakur stated that the detention of Gandhi was a matter for Indian law enforcement and that the US had no business interfering in India’s domestic affairs.

“India is a sovereign nation and we will take care of our own affairs,” he said. “We don’t need any interference from any other country.”

The minister went on to say that India had a long history of democracy and that its institutions were capable of handling any internal disputes. 

“We have our own institutions, our own laws, and our own democratic processes,” he said. “We are capable of addressing any internal matter on our own.”

Thakur’s comments reflect the Indian government’s stance on the recent farmer protests, which have been ongoing for several months. 

The government has faced criticism from opposition parties and international organizations over its handling of the protests, which have seen tens of thousands of farmers block highways and set up camps outside Delhi.

The government has defended the new agricultural laws, stating that they are necessary for modernizing India’s farming industry and boosting the economy.

However, farmers and opposition parties have argued that the laws will hurt small-scale farmers and benefit large corporations.

The detention of Rahul Gandhi has further escalated tensions between the government and the opposition. 

While the government has stated that Gandhi was detained for violating COVID-19 restrictions, opposition parties have accused the government of trying to silence dissenting voices.
