Anantnag Encounter: 2 Terrorists, LeT Commander Uzair Khan Encountered

The Indian security forces have successfully gunned down LeT terrorist group commander Uzair Khan, along with two other terrorists in Anantnag, Kashmir.

The Indian security forces have encountered the top commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group, named Uzair Khan and two other terrorists in an encounter lasting seven days in Anantnag, Kashmir.

Uzair Khan was involved in the killing of Indian army officers and a police officer in an earlier operation. They had killed three Indian Army personnel and one Jammu and Kashmir Police officer.

The 28-year old, Uzair Ahmad Khan used to reside in Nagam Kokernag in Anantnag. He has been missing since July 26 2022. The Intelligence agencies believed that Uzair was accompanied by 2 foreign terrorists.

The encounter is one of the longest operations in Kashmir, which lasted for over 100 hours, and has ended with Uzair Khan’s death.

The terrorists had taken shelter in the cave-like hideouts of Gadool Hill. The security forces handled this challenging mission in the hilly terrain. Drones, helicopters, and other advanced equipment were used to find and eliminate the terrorists.

The operation had started when some terrorists attempted to attack the security forces with gunfire. The terrorists were hiding in the forest area. Thus the security forces cordoned off the area so that the terrorists can’t escape and enter civilian areas.

ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that the Anantnag anti-terror operation is not over yet. Many areas are still under surveillance. He urged the local civilians not to go closer to the encounter site as there could be unexploded grenades or shells.

The terrorists including Uzair Khan were backed by Pakistan. Uzair Khan’s death is an undoubtedly significant achievement for India in the fight against terrorism. The Indian security forces will remain vigilant, as there might be more terrorists hiding in the forest or hilly areas.
