Indian Railways is going to upgrade 1,275 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Scheme to provide a better travel experience for its millions of passengers.
The Consultative Committee of Members of Parliament for the Ministry of Railways convened a meeting in New Delhi where a significant decision was made to upgrade 1,275 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Scheme.
This initiative aims to enhance station development and improve services on Indian Railways. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw chaired the meeting, which saw the participation of several Members of Parliament.
According to an official statement, the meeting focused on addressing the needs of the approximately 1.8 crore passengers who travel daily on Indian Railways.
The statement highlighted the commitment to ensuring the provision and availability of adequate catering facilities for passengers in trains and stations.
The Railways conducted a comprehensive analysis of catering services and implemented structural reforms in recent years to bring about a significant transformation in the catering business.
The statement mentioned that catering services were provided through static or mobile units, including pantry cars, mini pantries, and train-side vending facilities in a total of 473 pairs of trains.
Furthermore, Indian Railways operates 9,342 minor and 582 major static units, including Jan Aahaar outlets, Food Plazas, and Refreshment Rooms.
The ministry has implemented a catering policy aimed at delivering quality food to rail passengers by separating food preparation and distribution.
This allows for customization of the catering menu to include regional cuisine, seasonal delicacies, and preferences of different passenger groups. The introduction of the e-catering scheme has further improved food services on Indian Railways.
To ensure quality and service standards, cashless transactions are facilitated on both mobile and static catering units, while third-party audits are conducted. Regular inspections are carried out to monitor and maintain control over catering services.
