During a meeting between Amazon’s Chief Executive, Andy Jassy, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was announced that Amazon.com will invest an additional $15 billion in India.
This investment will contribute to the e-commerce giant’s total investment in India, across all its businesses, reaching $26 billion by 2030.
Jassy and Modi discussed various topics, including their support for Indian startups, job creation, boosting exports, promoting digitization, and empowering individuals and small businesses to compete globally.
Amazon published a blog post highlighting the conversation, emphasizing their commitment to these goals.
This recent announcement follows Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing unit, stating last month that it plans to invest 1.06 trillion rupees ($12.9 billion) in India by the end of 2030.
Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, revealed that Google will establish a global fintech operation center in GIFT City, located in the state of Gujarat in western India.
Pichai shared this information during a video interview, mentioning that Google is investing $10 billion through the India digitization fund.
During his trip to Washington DC, Prime Minister Modi also met with technology executives from both U.S. and Indian companies, including Tim Cook from Apple, Sundar Pichai from Google, and Satya Nadella from Microsoft.
He encouraged these global companies to consider manufacturing their products in India, promoting the government’s “Make in India” campaign.
