The Allahabad High Court slammed the censor board & asked “What do you want to teach future generations? Hindus are tolerant but do not test their tolerance.”
The Allahabad High Court in Uttar Pradesh has raised concerns over the film Adipurush and questioned the filmmakers about the potential impact on the tolerance levels of adherents of a particular religion, specifically referring to Hindus.
A bench comprising Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Shree Prakash Singh made these remarks while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) against the film’s dialogues and portrayal of mythological characters and deities.
The court expressed reservations about the film and stated that Hinduism is a religion whose followers have not caused any public order problems.
It also appeared to imply that those who were displeased with the film could have taken other actions beyond their current methods of protest.
The bench remarked that suppressing the gentle was not acceptable and expressed gratitude that the issue pertained to a religion known for its tolerance.
The bench further emphasized the sensitivity of religious scriptures, stating that they should not be touched or encroached upon. It noted that the petitioner’s concerns were genuine and not mere propaganda.
The court dismissed the significance of the film’s disclaimer, questioning whether the makers considered the audience to be brainless.
The bench pointed out that the film depicted deities such as Hanuman, Ram, Laxman, and Sita in a manner that undermined their significance, despite claims that it was not a representation of the Ramayana.
During the hearing, the counsel representing one of the petitioners mentioned other films, including PK, Mohalla Assi, and Haider, which had also hurt religious sentiments.
The court allowed an application to implead the dialogue writer of Adipurush, Manoj Muntashir Shukla, as a party respondent in the PIL and issued a notice to him.
TheAllahabad High Court concerned about the potential impact of the film Adipurush on religious tolerance, particularly among Hindus.
