Akshay Kumar steps down as tobacco brand ambassador after facing backlash, says ‘I am sorry’

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has stepped down as a brand ambassador of the pan masala brand after facing backlash. He has now announced that he will no longer be the ambassador of the tobacco brand.

He was recently trolled online for his association with the brand. Some social media users started trolling him on Twitter. They also made memes and shared them on social media sites. Subsequently, Kumar announced his withdrawal from the brand by issuing a statement on social media at midnight on Thursday. He also apologised to his fans and said, “I am sorry.” He also said that fans’ reactions affected him deeply.

Kumar was the latest Bollywood actor to join the pan masala brand for the promotion of their products. Earlier Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn joined the brand. Kumar’s decision to join the brand was not well received by his fans. They did not support his decision to join the brand. Kumar has now apologised to his fans with a note on his Instagram and Twitter accounts. He has a massive fan following on social media too.

Kumar wrote on a note, “I am sorry. I would like to apologise to all my fans and well-wishers. Your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi. With all humility, I step back.”

Kumar has also decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause. He said, “I have decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause. The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices.”
