Ajeet, Sumit Win Gold At Para Athletics World Championships

India achieved its best-ever medal haul at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championship in Paris, securing a total of 10 medals.

This surpasses their previous record set in 2019. The Indian team also secured 18 Paralympic quotas, with 14 male athletes and 4 female athletes qualifying for the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

The gold medalists from India include Sumit Antil in the Men’s Javelin Throw F64 category, who broke his own world record with a throw of 70.83 meters.

Ajeet Singh also won gold in the Men’s Javelin Throw F46 category, and Sachin Khilari Sarjerao secured gold in the Men’s Shot Put F46 category.

In addition to the gold medals, India won four silver medals: Nishad Kumar in the Men’s High Jump T47 category, Yogesh Kathuniya in the Men’s Discus Throw F56 category, Shailesh Kumar in the Men’s High Jump T63 category, and Rinku Hooda in the Men’s Javelin Throw F46 category.

The Indian team also won three bronze medals, with Praveen Kumar in the Men’s High Jump T64 category, Ekta Bhayan in the Women’s Club Throw F51 category, and Pooja in the Women’s Javelin Throw F54 category.

These 10 medalists from India have secured their spots at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, while an additional 8 athletes earned Paralympic quotas by finishing in the top four in their respective events.
