Air India is facing more problems as technicians who work on its planes are planning to stop working for a while. This comes after Air India’s pilots said they were working too much and not getting paid enough.
The All India Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Union wrote a letter to Air India’s boss, saying the technicians are not being promoted or treated well. They are upset because they haven’t been promoted in seven years, and the contract workers (75% of the workforce) feel they are treated unfairly compared to permanent staff.
Air India’s biggest client is AI Engineering Services Ltd., where these technicians work. The technicians are unhappy because they were promised better pay after two years of work but haven’t received it. They also feel they are not treated as well as the permanent staff.
This strike could be a big problem for India’s air travel industry, which is growing fast. Airlines like IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa have ordered more than 1,100 planes combined, so they need a stable workforce. Problems at Vistara, where pilots called in sick because they were tired and not paid enough, caused many flights to be cancelled. This shows how much the industry depends on its workers.

Air India is talking to the union to try to solve these problems before the strike. They haven’t increased the technicians’ pay yet because there’s a court case about it. But they plan to raise the pay once the court case is finished. The outcome of these talks will be important for the future of Air India and the aviation industry in India.
