AIIMS To Host ‘Sushruta Film Festival’ on ‘National Plastic Surgery Day’

AIIMS is going to host ‘Sushruta Film Festival’ on 15th July which is ‘National Plastic Surgery Day’ to spread awareness towards plastic surgery.

The Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in collaboration with APSI, an association of Plastic Surgeons of India, will organize the Sushruta Film Festival on the 12th National Plastic Surgery Day on 15th of this month.

Plastic surgeons from across the country will make people aware of plastic surgery by showing films at AIIMS on Friday on National Plastic Surgery Day. This information was given by the Association of Plastics Judges of India (APSI) in AIIMS.

Dr. Professor Manish Singhal, Head, Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery said that the theme of this film festival is focused on changing lives of people through plastic and reconstructive surgery. 

He said that plastic surgery does not mean only cosmetic surgery, but due to lack of awareness, more than 60 percent people consider plastic surgery to be cosmetic surgery.

He said that the film festival is being organized to encourage the contribution of plastic surgeons. The best films based on plastic surgery will be screened during the film festival. 

Dr. Professor Manish Singhal said that this festival will help in changing public perception about plastic surgery and its various uses.

Around 7,000 plastic surgeries are performed in AIIMS a year. The job of plastic surgery is not just to show beauty by making changes to the skin or tissues.

He said that the work of saving lives through plastic surgery is being done every day by plastic surgeons in other hospitals of the country including AIIMS, but people are not aware about plastic surgery.

Therefore, a film festival is being organized to dispel the myths related to plastic surgery. Films related to surgeries performed by various plastic surgeons of the country will be screened at AIIMS. 

More than 100 plastic surgeons have made films about their work. On this occasion, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Secretary, APSI informed that there are 2500 trained plastic surgeons in the country.
