Remini, an AI photo editing app, has suddenly gained immense popularity and a high rating on the App Store, surpassing Meta’s Threads app.
The app was initially launched in 2019 as a photo editing tool with photo-enhancing capabilities, making it popular among users seeking clearer images from blurred or overexposed photos.
However, its rise to fame began in 2022 when Remini introduced a generative AI feature that allowed users to create professional-looking headshots from selfies, suitable for CVs, portfolios, and LinkedIn profiles.
The turning point for Remini came when a TikTok user discovered and shared the app’s AI photo editing feature on the platform.
This sparked a viral trend as people started using the app to showcase their impressive transformations. As a result, Remini experienced a massive surge in downloads and usage.
App analytics firm Apptopia reported that Remini had over 22 million downloads in the last 30 days and recorded more than 20 million daily active users on July 19 and 20.
As a consequence of this surge, Remini climbed to the top of the App Store rankings, surpassing Threads. It currently holds a 4.6 rating with over 124,000 reviews.
While Remini is riding the wave of TikTok’s popularity, the fate of many trends in the TikTok graveyard shows that its newfound success might be temporary.
The key challenge for Remini will be to capitalize on its momentum and continue adding innovative features to maintain relevance and keep its user base engaged.
