Him losing out on the contract by the wrestling federation will not be due to the arrest rather due to non performance. His contract was worth Rs 30 lakh but the senior officials feel that he has not been showing much progress, which is why it was decided that his contract may be cancelled.

One of the sources talked to PTI and said, “It is clear that Sushil and Pooja (Dhanda) have not done anything notable since they were offered contracts (in 2019). They will not make the cut when the review meeting is held next month.”

His downfall was visible since he returned empty handed from the 2-18 Asian Games in Jakarta and the following year, lost out on the world championship too. Many faults were identified after his world championship stint and hence he refrained from returning to mat after the loss.
