Adani Port Refuses Cargo From Narcotics Hot Nations To Save Its Day

Gujarat – Adani Group has put a ban on its Mundra Port from receiving cargo from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. The move comes less than a month after almost 3,000 kilos of heroin was seized from two containers that had been dispatched at the port in Gujarat.

The new guidelines will be put into force from November 15. Under the new guidelines that have been issued to traders, import and export from all these nations will be restricted into this Indian port. Adani Port Authority has been under severe criticism due to its lax handling and had brought into question the fact that such dealings might have happened in the past and may have gone unnoticed.

Under the special title of a business advisory, the port authority is now taking onus of the situation and has issued specific guidelines. Even now, media reports are saying, there has been no concrete action has been taken against the 3000 kilos heroine seized.

According to a formal media statement made by Subrat Tripathy, chief executive officer of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd, “APSEZ will not handle EXIM containerized cargo originating from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Further, this business aka trade advisory will be applicable at all terminals operated by APSEZ, third party terminals at any APSEZ port till further notice.”

Being considered as one of the biggest seizures, the seizure of heroin by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in September is estimated to have a market value of Rs 21,000 crore and originated from Kandahar in Afghanistan.

Eight persons, including four Afghan nationals, were arrested and the case is now being handled by National Investigation Agency.

Further, the EC & NDPS Special Courts (Essential Commodities and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) are now suspecting gains might have gone into the hands of the port authorities themselves. Political analysts and many others have reasons to believe that possibly, the Adani port authorities had vested interest in letting the assignment land on their port. Two weeks ago, the court has asked and instructed the DRI to investigate the seizure where Adani was the ‘port operator’. According to news reports, the judge added that the heroin seizure has also raised “many issues” that should be investigated, such as, why the consignment was “registered and landed at Mundra Adani Port, Gujarat which is far from Vijayawada, Andhra
