ACU on alert after a player reached out the unit to complaint against a corrupt practice

A player, who is a part of the ongoing Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates, reached out to the BCCI Anti Corruption Unit. Since the complaint, the unit is on high alert.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s ACU chief, Ajith Singh, confirmed the news and said, “We are tracking him. It will take some time,” he said when asked if the alleged corruptor or “person of Interest” has been arrested.

The annual tournament being conducted in the UAE has made it very difficult for such perpetrators to reach out to the players or the administration but the online network of it has become so vast that threat still pertains in its 13th edition. ACU this year is keeping an eye on the online corrupt approaches where most other years, it focuses on keeping the players out of the mess.

In such scenarios, young players become even more prone than the experienced because of their presence on social media. With the trend of Twitter and Insatgarm, either these players tend to show off their locations or become very accessible on the platform.

Due to the protocols of the ACU, the name, franchise or other risky information about the player is not revealed.

One of the BCCI officials, Tom Mace, who heads the Sportradar’s global operations, said that the best in this incident was that the player immediately reached out to the ACU.

“The best part is that the player who was approached immediately sensed that something was fishy. He had suspicion and he immediately shared his concerns with the ACU. Every player, even those who have come from the U-19s are well aware of each and every anti-corruption protocols.”

Last week, an eight member team led by Ajit Singh landed in Dubai. The unit had already hinted that its prime focus will be to prevent corrupt approaches through social media profiles of the players.
