Actor Vijay Launches Political Party, Won’t Contest 2024 Elections

Tamil movie star Vijay has started his own political party called Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu. He plans to participate in the state assembly election in 2026 but has decided not to compete in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The party name “Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam” would roughly translate to “Tamil Victory Organization” or “Organization for Tamil Victory”.

Vijay, known for his roles in 68 films, has been thinking about entering politics for more than ten years. He has been actively involving his fans in various community services like giving out free food, scholarships, and legal help.

Vijay’s new party, registered with the Election Commission of India, will not support any other party in the upcoming 2024 elections. This decision was made at the party’s general council and executive council meetings.

Vijay has expressed his dedication to politics, stating that he will finish his current film commitments without affecting his political work. He sees this as his way of giving back to the people of Tamil Nadu.

The announcement of his political entry led to celebrations among his fans. Tamil Nadu has a history of film stars turning into politicians, like MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.

Vijay is seen as a prominent figure in Tamil cinema and has used his films to address important social issues. His father, Chandrasekhar, is a famous film director.

Vijay’s fan group, ‘Vijay Makkal Iyakkam‘, known for its social work, is being transformed into this new political party. The TVK aims to bring political change in Tamil Nadu, a goal echoed by Vijay.

The party’s influence is expected to spread beyond Tamil Nadu due to Vijay’s strong fan base in Kerala and Karnataka.

He recently organized events to honor top students in public exams and encouraged them to learn from leaders like Ambedkar, Periyar, and Kamaraj.

Vijay has announced his final movies before starting his political career. His upcoming films include “G.O.A.T.” set for release in 2024, directed by Venkat Prabhu, starring Vijay alongside Prabhu Deva, Prashanth, and Ajmal Ameer. The film has already made a buzz with its posters.

Another movie in the pipeline is “LEO 2”, a sequel to the 2023 hit “Leo”. The final movie of his acting career, “Thalapathy69“, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, is anticipated to be a significant project in Tamil cinema.
