Abhinav Bindra calls Delhi Marathon an important step towards resuming sports in India

Abhinav Bindra: As the world tries to come back to normal, sporting vents too are finding their way back in action. The recent event held in Delhi, the Airtel Delhi Half marathon is one such event that saw people back in action, contributing to fitness amidst coronavirus.

This initiative has been encouraged by Former World and Olympic Champion Abhinav Bindra as he shared his happiness on elite athletes participating in the marathon which was held on Sunday.

The Olympic gold medalist is the brand ambassador of the event and soon after its conclusion, he said,“The ADHM is a very significant moment for Indian sports, since the pandemic started. Our athletes have resumed training but we have to get them in the competitive space. This is a very important step towards resuming competitive sports in India, and a benchmark for other sports.”

Bindra is India’s first Olympic gold medalist who won the medal in 2008, Beijing Olympics but despite being a rifle shooter, he shared that running was very much a part of his physical training while he was active in the shooting sphere.

Runners from all around India have participated in the marathon. This elite list of runners included Avinash Sable, Srinu Bugatha, Abhishek Pal, Pradeep Singh, Parul Chaudhary, Chinta Yadav and Sanjivani Jadhav. These runners faced a tough competition from some of the best runners in the world. But the marathon is not restricted to India as other runners, even if they are not present in the national capital will be able to join through an app.

While talking about the technology, which is used to connect players from all around the world, Bindra explained that the era is forcing us to embrace technology and keep on innovating something or the other. He added that in order to survive a challenging situation, people have to learn to adapt.

This year the limits of the technology will be tested in the marathon as the athletes will be heading towards remotest locations in the Airtel organised marathon.

“This era forces us to embrace technology and innovate more. To survive a challenging situation, we have to adapt to the situation,” said Bindra, about the amateurs running in remote locations.
