A man from Chandigarh has gone viral on social media for spending more than Rs 15 lakh for a VIP number license plate to put on his Rs 71,000 scooter.
Brij Mohan bought the elusive number plate ending with 0001 for Rs. 15.44 lakh at an auction held by the Chandigarh Registering and Licensing Authority. The auction was held from April 14 to April 16. Mohan’s vehicle number reads ‘CH01-CJ-001’. The ‘CH01- CJ-0001’ was put up for auction at a base price of Rs 500,000 and was sold at Rs 15.44 lakh to Mohan.
However, the elusive number plate won’t sit on his Rs 71,000 scooter forever. He said that he bought this special number plate for a future vehicle that he plans to buy during Diwali this year. The VIP license plate will sit on top of his Honda Activa Scooter until then. Mohan runs an advertising agency in Chandigarh.
Ahead of the auction, the Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, announced that the Haryana government would put ‘0001’ number plates on auction for common people to generate additional revenue for the state. According to media reports, total revenue of Rs 18 crore could be earned by auctioning these VIP number plates to the common people.
The VIP number 0001 is currently being used in 179 government vehicles. CM Khattar owned 4 of them. He recently decided to give up these license plates and the bidding for the 0001 number plates began at Rs 5 lakhs. The 0001 number plates are very popular among people.
Earlier, another bizarre incident took place in Tamil Nadu. A man purchased a Bajaj Dominar at Rs 2.67 lakhs by saving Rs 1 coin every day. It took ten hours for the dealers to count the money.
