Temple Committee member Raju Shroff said, “It’s an amazing feeling because it’s a dream come true, at least for my father, who’s been in this country since 1960.”
He added, “I got involved in this project only 5 years ago, but his father has been on it for five decades. So the journey has been quite (long).”
The temple, which can accommodate 1,000 people at once and has a distinctive lotus design embellishing the central skylight, was constructed for approximately 60 million dirhams ($16 million).
Visitors must register for a QR code online in advance of the expected high demand. With nearly 35% of the 10 million residents being Indian, the UAE has the largest expat population.
In addition to serving as a temple for all varieties of Hinduism, it will also serve as a resource center for Indian immigrants, particularly workers, with experts like attorneys and physicians volunteering their skills.
According to Shroff, when workers experience difficulty or have particular needs, “they can call out to us and we will reach out to the society at large.”
“We would like to assist because there are so many workers here. And since so many professionals are willing to assist, we actually serve as the platform to close the gap.”
