An unfortunate bomb blast in Afghanistan yesterday killed 95 Afghans. The Islamic State struck the crowded gates of Kabul airport in a suicide bomb attack which ended up killing civilians and at least 13 US troops. It primarily disrupted the airlift for thousands of Afghans who were desperate to flee away from their own country.
It was reported that people at the front of the crowd were being crushed and that medical assistants were rushing from casualty to casualty. Several people hid in the corridors and behind the pillars being terrified.
Given the prevailing chaos, these deaths seemed inevitable. Somehow airport in Kabul has been the site of desperate scenes since the Taliban took control of Kabul on August 15. One could see tens of thousands of Afghans waiting in the heat for hours in the hope to board an evacuation flight.
Waiting and tirelessly trying for a miracle escape, several families were found strangled and crowded between the barbed-wire boundaries of an unofficial no-man’s-land. That area separates and divides Taliban fighters from US troops.
Earlier it was seen that roads leading to the airport have been choked with traffic, as most of the citizens make their way to escape from their country. Making the situation even worse, the Taliban and other militants have been stopping, beating, and harassing the Afghans who are trying to flee.
US President Joe Biden has called the airlift one of the largest, and most difficult airlifts in history. US officials have somehow taken control of the airport, and have repeatedly warned people to stay away unless they are on evacuation lists.
