The Agneepath scheme, which the central government created to increase military recruitment, is being challenged across the nation as a result of the propagation of misconceptions about it.

After several former military officers questioned the scheme, youth have taken to the streets, accusing them of being fooled through the scheme.

Meanwhile, the government has unofficially released the ‘Lies vs Truth’ document to clear the misunderstandings related to the scheme.

1. What is Agneepath Scheme?

Agneepath scheme is a pan-India merit-based recruitment process for all the three services, Army, Air Force and Navy. In this, the youth will be given an opportunity to serve in the regular cadre of the army.

The youth recruited under this scheme will be called ‘Agniveer’. Under this, youth will get an opportunity to serve in the army for four years.

Thereafter, 25% of the Agniveers will be retained in service on the basis of merit, willingness and medical fitness.

2. Where are Protests being held against this scheme?

Protests are being held in many states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan against the Agneepath scheme.

In Bihar’s Saharsa, youth protested by stopping the train and trains were vandalized at Bhabua Road station in Kaimur district. Apart from this, the bogie of a train was also set on fire.

Similarly, there have been incidents of vandalism and arson in vehicles in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

3. Will the future of Agniveers recruited in the scheme be insecure?

According to the government document, the future of Agniveers will be fully secured in the scheme.

Agniveers who want to do business after four years will be given the benefit of an economic package and bank loan scheme for business.

Similarly those studying will be given 12th class certificates and will be given the facility of bridge course for further studies.

Similarly, job-seeking youth will be given priority in the recruitment of Central Security Forces including State Police.

4. Will the scheme reduce opportunities for youth in the armed forces?

The document states that the scheme will increase the opportunities for youth to serve in the armed forces rather than reduce them.

In the coming years, the recruitment of Agniveers will increase three times as compared to the current recruitment in the Armed Forces.

5. Will the plan reduce the effectiveness of the armed forces?

According to the government, most countries have such a concise service system i.e. it has already been tested.

It is considered to be the best system for the youth and the skill of the army. The number of Agniveers to be recruited in the first year will be only 3% of the armed forces.

Apart from this, the performance of Agniveers will be checked before they are re-admitted in the army after 4 years. With this, the army will be able to get skilled people for the supervisor rank.

6. Are 21 year olds not trustworthy for the army?

The government document states that most of the world’s military depends on its youth, but veterans also have their own importance.

In such a situation, the number of youth in the army will not be more than the experienced people at any time.

The present plan is to gradually bring in the experienced supervisor rank over a long period of time and the right ratio of just 50-50 per cent of the youth. This will keep trust in the army.

7. Will the plan reduce the regimental fraternity?

This plan will not bring any change in the regimental system. Through this the regimental brotherhood will be stronger than before.

The plan would select the most outstanding Agniveers and would further strengthen the internal coordination of the regiment.

The government believes that such thinking insults the character and values ​​of the Indian Armed Forces.

The youth who will wear the army uniform for 4 years and will be dedicated to the service of the country, he will be devoted to the country for the rest of his life.
